Fiberlicious: Tasty Malabrigo

Megan, Mastermind of Fiberlicious, has made it clear that Fiberliciousness need not be restricted to Fridays. Since I spent Friday transporting and nursing M after he had his lower two wisdom teeth extracted, today is the day for feasting on fiber here at Molecular Knitting. BTW, M is recovering with his usual super-human abilities, although he was pretty loopy on the way home from the doctor’s. Note to self: open truck windows + very large gorked-out-of-his-mind husband = a very bad plan. We got home OK, but I needed to pet my new Malabrigo laceweight to soothe my frazzled nerves. Malabrigo Lace Weight

I have two skeins of this softer-than-soft yarn (940 yd total). What to knit? Kirsten of Through the Loops, who enabled me by letting me know that Webs carries Malabrigo laceweight, is knitting Icarus. That is how I am leaning also. But does anyone else have suggestions? Please leave a comment if you do!

Happy Knitting!

  • *drool* Yum yum yummy yarn!

Well, tell M not to overdo it – I did when I got my wisdom teeth out and got dry sockets. OUCH.

  • There are the new classics: Kiri, Flower Basket Shawl, Shetland Triangle plus a couple from Anne Hanson at KnitSpot.

Be sure to search Knitty and Interweave Knits for other (free) ideas – especially if you want something other than a triangular shawl.

  • Just clicked over here from Jae’s place, and saw
    1) purple glory
    2) socks
    3) more gorgeous socks
    4) pretty pretty colour yarns
    congrats on your excellent style!

  • I hope that M. is doing well! No cocktails for a while, I imagine, with all the stuff one has to take after wisdom tooth surgery.

I have lighter purple Malabrigo in my stash too, so I’m going to keep checking your comments to see what others suggest. I was leaning in the Icarus direction…

  • I love the fiberliciousness of the Malabrigo of course and it’s a great photo! I’ll be coming back to see what everybody suggests as well. I love the ideas so far. I think this yarn lends itself to more “solid” areas of knitting (i.e. Icarus) but would also be beautiful with any of the other pattens mentioned.

  • I have a skein of this too, and no idea what to do with it. And mine is pretty strikingly variegated, so the options are limited…

But the yardage in 1 skein is comparable to Misti Alpaca, right?–about 400 yards? So that means that Flower Basket, Swallowtail, and Trellis are all possibilities.

  • Gorgeous! I’ve gotten to pet this yarn in person, and it’s wonderful đŸ™‚

My friend decided to go with Seraphim, but I know she was also considering Swallowtail and Spring Thing.

  • I don’t have any suggestions, but I wanted to say that it is a luscious color! Every time I go to the LYS with my hubby he picks out beautiful, masculine colorways in malabrigo and shows them to me. I really need to knit him something with this yarn!

  • MALABRIGO MAKES LACEWEIGHT YARN? YAAAAAAAAAAY! I’m a HUGE Malabrigo fan (okay, well, addict). Yummm.

Hope your sweetie feels better soon. It’s awful having your wisdom teeth pulled.
