I think I’d use a semi-solid for the socks you were thinking about, but the koigu might be just the thing! (They might create waves of pooling in Koigu- depending on how many stitches you use. Could be quite pretty. My preference would be to use a yarn similar to the color of the orchid colorway in your post- in sock yarn, of course.)

The sock pattern you asked about (re: blog comment) is a wee bit of a re-work from a chevron pattern in Charlene Schurch’s first Sensational Socks book. I think it’s called “Welt”, or similar. I’ve added stitches, and have changed up where the garter sections are placed. Simple and fun knit for hand-painted yarn!
